Barcelona in 3 days Itinerary Breakdown ~ Day 1
Morning: Arrival + Free late morning Walking City Tour
Begin your first day in Barcelona with a complimentary morning walking tour led by a local tour guide with local insights and recommendations!
I always like to start the first day in any new city to see some highlights and hidden gems combined.
Book in advance a FREE walking tour if you’re arriving in Barcelona in the morning and have time for a late morning free walking tour.
Must-Know: During these walking tours, please note that it’s expected to give tips. Consider tipping reasonably for what you think the tour is worth. If you booked and can’t make it, please cancel, as I learned from tour guides that when someone books a free walking tour and doesn’t cancel, the tour guide still gets charged $2 by the booking platform.
Free Walking Tour in Barcelona
On my first day, I booked a free walking tour ~ Uncover the secrets of Barcelona.
This walking tour is perfect for a first day because it offers insights into what Barcelona is now today.
The walking tour includes the following:
- Roman Wall
- Plaza del Rei
- Roman Gates
- Bishop’s Bridge
- Roman Cemetery
- Catalan Traditions
- Picasso in Barcelona
- Sant Felip Neri Square
- Chapel of Santa Llúcia
- Cathedral of Barcelona
- Spanish Civil War history
- The Catalan human tower
- Sant Jaume Square (City Hall)
- Jewish Quarter & Jewish Synagogue
Experience an introduction to Barcelona’s history, landmarks, art, culture, and tradition through exploration of both the past and present of the city, as well as popular sites and undiscovered routes early on to help you make better plans for the remainder of your traveling days.

My experience
Walking tours are a great way to see, hear, smell, and experience details of the city and fully enjoy the local culture, street activity, and architectural features in front of me.
Travel Tip: If you’re traveling alone or looking to meet new friends, take a chance and join in. Since walking tours are typically done in groups, I always had the opportunity to meet other travelers during the tour. So, most of the solo travelers I met were during these city walking tours!
Afternoon through after sunset: Shrimp tapas for lunch + explore Casa Batlló & Casa Milà (architect Gaudí’s famous designs)

Have lunch nearby or at your chosen restaurant. My first walking tour ended at the Barcelona Cathedral, so I decided to have a quick lunch takeaway nearby, just a few minutes walk from the Barcelona Cathedral.
I ate at El Cafè d’en Víctor and had a delicious meal! The price can be expensive, but the food and service were great!

After lunch, see and photograph Casa Batlló & Casa Milà from the exterior and/or visit inside.
Admire Gaudí’s amazing architectural designs, which are must-see attractions while visiting Barcelona!
On my first day (in the afternoon), I got to see Casa Batlló, one of Gaudí’s famous masterpieces with a unique dragon-inspired roof, vibrant patterns, and interesting history!
Travel Tips: If you prefer a unique lighting and live music, take a tour at night.
Book your experience:
- Casa Batllo Admission Ticket with Intelligent Audio Guide
- Night Visit in Casa Batlló with Live Music on the Roof Terrace
More Barcelona Tip:
- Consider taking a 3-hour guided tour of Gaudí’s three houses (Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Casa Vicens) including admission tickets, if you prefer this option instead.

Antoni Gaudi Architecture
Casa Milà (La Pedrera) is another lovely design by architect Gaudí. I was amazed seeing it up close with its flowing stone exterior and creative rooftop chimneys. The rooftop shows how Gaudí’s chimneys and ventilation towers have been transformed into sculptures with distinctive shapes.
Travel Tips: If you like the golden light, visit the rooftop at sunset or evening for panoramic views of Barcelona.

Before Sunset:Tour Sagrada Familia from the outside

See Sagrada Familia before sunset and evening, as it’s SO beautiful!
I planned on attending the evening mass inside at 8:00 PM as I visited Barcelona during my birthday trip. So, I took a tour from the outside to admire its beauty while also visiting nearby stores and cafes before the mass begins.
The first time I ever saw Sagrada Familia, I was so mesmerized that I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It’s so intricately well-designed!
It’s the most beautiful cathedral and man-made creation I’ve ever seen! The more I looked at it, the more I realized why it’s so famous. I got so inspired by Mr. Gaudí’s masterpiece!
I fell in love with it so much that I am so thankful and glad as I reflect on my travels, I got to see Sagrada Familia three times during my 3-day Barcelona trip (first day ~ evening mass), (second day ~ afternoon [visited inside] ), and third day ~ late morning [took more pictures].
Evening: Dinner +/- explore cafes/stores near Sagrada Familia, take pictures + attend evening mass

If you have a sweet tooth or are a chocolate lover, consider visiting Torrons Vicens Petritxol, a lovely chocolate shop that gives out free samples with a variety of flavors.
Travel Tip: Visit the store to try some free samples. If you ended up liking any, purchase some for souvenirs.

Don’t forget to take pictures of Sagrada Familia to capture memories!
Head to Plaça de Gaudí, the small park is located directly in front of the Nativity Façade.
I took this picture within a short walking distance outside the Basilica (Front/Nativity Façade). I was thankful there was a kind gentleman who offered to take my pictures, since at first I was taking a selfie on my own.
It’s such a lovely scene of the cathedral’s famous frontal view with reflection in the pond! It’s one of the most Instagrammable spots in Barcelona that a first-timer traveling in Barcelona should NOT miss!

This front view side I found is the best spot to see how big Sagrada Familia is. I personally also like this area for a photo, but there were many people.
Travel tip: Visit in the morning between 7-8 am to avoid the crowd if you really want to have photos without people in the background.
*Important* Barcelona Tip: Sagrada Familia tickets sell out quickly. From my experience, they do NOT sell tickets at the door.
So, it is advisable to purchase them in advance to ensure entry.

Meaningful experience in Barcelona
If you are a Catholic or enjoy visiting churches (like me), consider attending an evening mass during your travel to Barcelona.
I chose Barcelona for my birthday trip because I am fond of visiting churches and lighting up candles to express my gratitude and prayers. Whenever I travel and visit a new cathedral, it’s always been my tradition to light up a candle, pray, and have moments of peace and reflection.
For me, the experiences always made my travels more meaningful and worthwhile.
Travel Tips: Arrive at least one hour early before it begins. Check their website for an updated mass schedule. Bring some Euro cash/coins if you’d like to light up a candle before the evening mass begins.
Important Barcelona Tip: Avoid wearing short skirts/shorts and dress modestly, especially if you’re attending Mass.
Must-Know: Free admission, but that capacity is limited. The line was long when I went.

After mass, take more pictures before heading back to the hotel. Appreciate the exquisite details while exploring the exterior façades.
I found the back of the cathedral worth capturing at night. So, I just had to take more photos while waiting for a taxi.
Day 1 Highlights | Book your experiences |Plan your Visit:

Barcelona in 3 days Itinerary Breakdown ~ Day 2
Day 2: Instagram Photoshoot + Sightseeing Bus Tour + Park Güell + Gaudí Experiència + Sagrada Familia tour inside
- Enjoy instagrammable spots in Barcelona
- See Barcelona from the top of a BUS sightseeing tour
- Visit Park Güell
- Learn about Gaudí Experiència
- Tour the Sagrada Familia inside
- Barcelona city tour at night

Morning: Discover Barcelona Instagrammable spots (enjoy your photoshoot) + City Sightseeing Barcelona Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour
If you prefer to have high-quality pictures taken with a professional camera at the city’s most picturesque locations in Barcelona, then consider a photographer-guide tour through the must-photograph Sagrada Familia, lovely Gothic Quarter, charming Parc de la Ciutadella, and other must-see attractions in Barcelona.
Book your experience: Instagram Photoshoot Tour in Barcelona

Parc de la Ciutadella (Ciutadella Park) is a lovely place for quick strolling and photo spot.
Appreciate the Cascada Monumental fountain (which architecture student Gaudí partly contributed to the design)

See the uniquely colored red-brick triumphal arch located near Parc de la Ciutadella. It’s one of the most famous Barcelona photo spots.
Admire the intricate sculptures that go well with the arch’s distinctive color!

What not to miss in Barcelona
My favorite photo spot in Barcelona is the Plaça de Gaudí (Gaudí Park), which is the famous picture-perfect photograph of the pond reflecting Sagrada Família like in the postcard!
Book your experience: Instagram Photoshoot Tour in Barcelona
Must-Know: There’s always a line taking photos since I have been to this place three times during my 3-day Barcelona trip.
Travel Tips: Arrive before 8:00 AM to capture the reflection and avoid the line. Use the trees at the sides for natural framing. The evening cathedral reflection is also beautiful.

After a 2-hour morning instagram spots photoshoot, consider going on a sightseeing bus tour around the city of Barcelona before lunch and heading to Park Güell.
Book your experience: Barcelona: 24 or 48-Hour Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour
Afternoon: Park Güell + Gaudí Experiència + tour INSIDE Sagrada Família

Next destination in Barcelona that a first-timer should NOT miss is Park Güell. It looks like a fairytale park designed by Antoni Gaudí with charming architectural designs and beautiful city views!
Admire and notice the serpentine bench that curves like a sea serpent. It’s a uniquely colorful mosaic bench that reminds me of a similar bench I saw in Lima, Peru.
Must Know: A timed ticket is needed to enter the primary architectural area (Monumental Zone).
Travel Tip: I got to Park Güell by taking the Hop-On Hop-Off Barcelona Bus after the sightseeing tour.
Book your experience: >>> Buy Park Güell Admission Ticket online in advance <<<
Travel Tips: It was very hot when I went, so bring sunglasses, a hat, and a portable fan. Since it’s an open and big park that requires walking, wear comfortable shoes. Consider going early (before 10 am) or late afternoon (after 5pm) if you prefer fewer people.
Barcelona Travel Tips
For more scenic parts of the park, use the Main Entrance ~Carrer d’Olot (where the dragon staircase and main photo opportunities are).
Tips for solo travelers: If you are traveling alone, notice how other people are taking their photos to get ideas, and if you feel they’re kind travelers (who don’t mind taking your photos), consider asking them to take your picture for you. From my experience, whenever I’d ask a couple to take my photos, they do not mind at all, as they always ask to take their couple pictures after. So, it’s a win-win.
There are many interesting places to see at Park Güell, including Gaudí’s House Museum and the Hypostyle Room.
Gaudí’s House Museum (pinkish building) is where Gaudí spent almost 20 years working on his most creative projects.
The hypostyle room that was initially intended to be marketplace, resembles a forest of stone columns.
Book your experience: Park Güell Admission Ticket
What not to miss in Barcelona
After visiting Park Güell, if you’re already a Gaudí fan, consider going to Gaudí Experiència to learn how nature inspired Gaudí’s structural designs.
Watch a 20-minute 4D film with active stereoscopic visuals and moving seats with wind and water effects.
I really enjoyed my experience and recommend it. I honestly wish the film was longer.
Of course, I didn’t miss the chance to take a picture with one of the most famous architects, Mr. Antoni Gaudí while at G Experiència to remember my trip to Barcelona and how I became such a huge fan of his work during my time here!
Gaudí Experiència is a must-do in Barcelona and should be added to a Barcelona itinerary since it’s is only short walking distance from Park Güell.
Travel Tips: Combine with a Park Güell visit as it’s only a few minutes walk. If you need a break during hot or rainy days, this place is a nice indoor and air‑conditioned experience!
Book your experience: Gaudí Experiència Barcelona Admission Ticket
LATE-afternoon: Tour inside Sagrada Familia
Important Barcelona Tip: Avoid wearing short skirts/shorts and dress modestly, especially if you’re attending Mass.

After Park Güell and Gaudí Experiència, head to Sagrada Familia for a tour inside.
Caution: Get ready to fall in love walking in nature inside the Cathedral!
Book your experience *EARLY*: Sagrada Familia Entry Ticket & Guided Tour
What a mind-blowing experience!
During my visit, the sun sets through the Passion Façade (the west-facing stained-glass windows) illuminating the area with such lovely and captivating warm orange, red, and yellowish-brown colors combined!
My experience: The lights and interior designs were so stunning that the moment I stepped inside, I just sat there for a very long time in complete awe (I was so mesmerized that I had forgotten to take pictures, including myself in this view)
First-Time Visit Tips: Remember to look up at the ceiling and observe the tree-inspired columns, and then look down to notice the floor details. I realized how amazing Gaudí’s ideas are — nature and geometry were such essential aspects of his designs. So genius! Wow!

The lights were so captivating as I stared appreciating and feeling inspired by Gaudí’s nature-inspired “interior” design of the Sagrada Familia.
*** Barcelona instagrammable ***
For me, the best time to visit inside the Sagrada Família is during late afternoon (around 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM) for photo-worthy experience, perfect lighting and smaller crowds, even though there were still many people when I went. I found it difficult to have a peaceful moment and concentrate while praying during my visit. I was still thankful for such an unforgettable experience inside. It’s a must-visit that should be on a timer’s itinerary in Barcelona!
Travel Tip: Check Barcelona’s sunset time on the day of your planned visit and book/time your entry inside at least 1–1.5 hours before sunset.
IMPORTANT: You need to purchase your tickets online *few months* in advance as they’re NOT sold at the door.

The cathedral is not only awe-inspiring from the outside, but even more captivating inside.
Sagrada Familia is truly Gaudí’s masterpiece! I was so amazed and inspired to learn and see his creative ideas come to life!
Travel Tip: Consider reserving your visit around ( 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM) as it’s the most photogenic with magical interior lighting and golden sunset glow.
Book your experience: (with add-ons +/- tower visit, direct access, rooftop)
Money Saving Tips
More Barcelona Tip: Sagrada Familia offers discounted tickets for visitors under 30 years. To save money, book your entry ticket on their website for a discount.
Must- Know: If you booked Sagrada Familia on their official website, you must come during your time slot to guarantee entry. Download the official Sagrada Família app and bring earphones before you come so you can listen to the audioguide (duration 1 hour).
Evening: Night City Tour (evening view of Barcelona City) on top of Hop-On Hop-Off Bus + Dinner
Enjoy a Barcelona city tour at night after visiting Sagrada Familia by hop-on hop-off bus.
Sit back and relax as you sightsee and appreciate the night view of the beautiful city before dinner.
Must-Know: Hop-On Hop-Off has a duration of approximately 2 hours per route.
Travel Tips: If exhausted or do NOT prefer an action-packed itinerary during a Barcelona trip, Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour is a scenic and convenient way to explore Barcelona’s main sights. Sit on the Upper Deck if it’s not raining for the best view!

Dinning in Barcelona
Have dinner at your chosen restaurant.
I originally planned on getting off at a stop by the beach during the night city bus tour, but it started raining. So, I ended my day by having dinner at my hotel, instead. What an exhausting but memorable and fun second day!
Must-Know: Dinner starts late in Barcelona. I learned locals normally eat dinner late, around 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. So, don’t be surprised to find that many restaurants don’t serve dinner until 8:00 PM. Tip: Consider bringing a little snack with you in case you feel hungry early in the evening.
Alternative (s) [Evening itinerary]
- Flamenco Show at the Theater
- Flamenco Show with Dinner + Drinks at Tablao de Carmen

Discover more of Barcelona’s charms and explore the Catalan tradition by viewing stone sculptures of couples performing the traditional Catalan circle dance, a symbol of Catalan cultural identity.
The monument represents the Sardana dance, a symbol of Catalan unity and tradition. It is located on Barcelona’s Montjuïc hillside.
How to see Barcelona in 3 days
On this 3-day Barcelona itinerary, I explored Barcelona on foot on the first day during a walking tour, then took a bus tour to see it from the upper deck on the second day. Finally, on the third day of my vacation to Barcelona, I got to see the city from above and recognized the famous landmarks through a bird’s-eye view!

See the panoramic view on top of the Columbus monument at a height of 60 meters and learn more about one of the most historic monuments of Barcelona.
Admire the historic shipyards and Montjuïc Castle when you visit the monument’s top viewpoint in Barcelona.
Book your experience: Access to the viewing platform of the Columbus Monument

If particular places interest you and you would like to personally see or spend more time there, while traveling in Barcelona, then the third day would be the best time to do that.
I admire Sagrada Familia so much that I want to see and explore it for a little longer.
During my 3 days in Barcelona, I visited the Sagrada Familia three times because I couldn’t get enough of it! I went back the following day and continued to take pictures as I enjoyed every detail of this beautiful cathedral!

Tour more of your favorite place in Barcelona at your own pace!
CAUTION: Be aware of pickpockets especially in crowded places. Keep your bags in front of you rather than behind you so you can keep track of your belongings.
Afternoon: Lunch + Gothic Quarter + Kiss Wall + Plaza de Cataluña + La Rambla + Portal de l’Àngel + last minute/window shopping

Before or after lunch, wander through the Gothic Quarter, visit inside the Cathedral of Barcelona and explore Instagrammable spots nearby.
There are plenty of sights and photo ops around this area!
Don’t forget to visit and take pictures of Barcelona’s Cathedral’s magnificent Gothic architecture. It’s a must-see tourist destination that should be on every itinerary for three days in Barcelona!
Book your experience: Cathedral of Barcelona Entry Ticket + Access to the rooftop
If you’re looking for a restaurant with a view in Barcelona, consider going to Lamaro Hotel rooftop for lunch. See a different view of the bell towers of the Cathedral of Barcelona from their terrace and enjoy lunch on top while taking in the scenery!
Must-Know: Expect to wait. The line was very long. Based on my experience, no reservations are accepted.
Travel Tip: If planning to eat here, arrive before they open or consider staying at Lamaro Hotel. The rooftop is rightacross and just steps away from the Cathedral of Barcelona.

Barcelona Tips from Locals
The rooftop restaurant at Lamaro Hotel had a long line. I chose not to wait since I was short on time and feeling too hungry. Instead, I went back to the same restaurant I had eaten at on my first day in El Cafe d’en Victor, which is conveniently only steps away from the Cathedral of Barcelona. I found the food delicious when I first tried it, so I didn’t mind coming back!
Enjoy lunch at the restaurant of your choice, and remember to try some of the local cuisine and drinks that you won’t be able to get the same taste and quality back home!
Barcelona Travel Tips: Keep an eye on your belongings if you’re seated at a table outside a restaurant in Barcelona, especially in touristy areas like La Rambla. I prefer wearing sling bag when in crowded places as I’m able to keep my belongings in front of me at all times.

Explore Barcelona’s instagrammable spots while strolling around the Gothic’s Quarter including a unique public art piece – The Kissing Wall
It’s made of 4,000 photos in ceramic tiles when viewed up close!

Shopping in Barcelona
After exploring the Gothic Quarter, walk around Plaza de Cataluña and visit some last-minute or window shopping!
Experience the main central square of Barcelona, where the old city blends with the modern district. It’s a bustling center with shops, cafes, statues, and fountains. While walking here, you may see a show and pop-up performances.
BE CAREFUL: Watch your bags and always place in front of you. Consider wearing a sling bag (like the one I have been wearing during my Barcelona trip) since it’s usually crowded when visiting touristy places (pickpocket hotspot)

Travel Tip: Spend some time in the afternoon (if interested) in doing last-minute/window shopping, Plaza de Cataluña is near shopping areas (Portal de l’Àngel and El Corte Inglés).
Must-Know: Most famous Barcelona tourist attractions, including Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, are walkable from this place.
MORE Barcelona tips: Be careful when going to Las Ramblas, I heard from other travelers getting ripped off when they ate there. Keep your belongings in front of you instead of behind you.
Before/At Sunset + Evening: Visit the beach or relax at the hotel’s rooftop pool + dinner + prepare for flight the next day

End the last day of 3 days in Barcelona at the beach or pool, or spend more of the remaining time shopping if you’d like.
If you’re traveling during the summer, spring, or early fall, consider visiting the beach in Barcelona or relaxing at your hotel’s pool. I stayed at Acta Vora Port, which has a lovely rooftop pool with a view. It’s only a 10-minute walk from Bogatell Beach.
