One of the prettiest domes I’ve ever seen is the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City! Did you know it’s celebrated for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture?
It’s worth visiting to admire its beautiful orange-yellow dome, marble façade, and stained glass. I think Mexico City is one of the best vacation spots in Mexico for adults.
If you plan to go inside, don’t miss the stained-glass stage curtain designed by Tiffany & Co and see the murals by renowned Mexican artists.

It’s my first time going inside the cave alone! Even though it was a short exploration, I heard bats flying inside. I was brave enough to go on my own because I knew there was a man outside the cave collecting money for the entrance fee (haha).
So bring cash if you want to explore inside the cave. It’s a short tour and not that scary as long as you use a flashlight, but I wouldn’t recommend going if you’re claustrophobic and scared of the dark!

My honest experience | Scary Solo Female Traveler Experience ~ Be careful!
As a solo female traveler in Mexico, I do not recommend traveling alone at night! I experienced a man following me while exploring the colorful colonial architecture at the Centro Histórico.
Even though I was initially with the people in my group tour. However, I decided to explore on my own while waiting for dinner after we ordered.
I made the mistake of entering a very dimly lit area of the colonial architecture since I assumed it would just be a short exploration given how close our restaurant was.
However, to my surprise, a middle-aged/old man popped out behind me and seemed to be intentionally trying to scare me the way he appeared and continued to follow me. I got so scared since I was all alone that I walked really fast. Thankfully, I got back to the restaurant safely since it was very close.
Lesson learned: Even if you believe the location is only a short stroll from the bustling, well-lighted places (restaurants), DO NOT venture into dimly lit, dark areas by yourself at night!
12.Tulum Ruins, Yucatan Peninsula

The main highlight of exploring the Tulum Ruins is the ancient Maya site’s picturesque scenery overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
I enjoyed the spectacular coastal views while exploring this place. In fact, the view from the water/boat ride from this area is even more beautiful! If you’re going snorkeling in Tulum, your tour may take you to the spectacular view!
If you’re looking for one of the best places to visit in Mexico for history, the Yucatán Peninsula is where you’ll find the Tulum Ruins, a Mayan archaeological site.
Did you know that due to Tulum’s coastal location, it’s considered a major Maya trading port in the past?

Must Know | Travel Tips
- Consider booking a combined tour with Río Secreto Nature Reserve and/or snorkeling with turtles, so you can maximize your time and visit more places in one day!
- Remember to wear comfortable walking footwear!
- Bring an umbrella, a mini travel fan, a water bottle, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.

Wandering around the plaza, soaking in the Christmas atmosphere around and enjoying the food at nearby restaurants were most memorable for me.
It’s worth visiting the colonial architecture of Iglesia de San Servacio and the main plaza across the church. I have always enjoyed sightseeing and visiting churches when I travel to a new place. For me, traveling always feels lighter when I express my gratitude through prayers as I visit new churches with a peaceful atmosphere.
Travel Tip:
If you’re planning your Mexico itinerary and visiting Chichén Itzá and cenotes, add Valladolid at sunset/in the evening when it’s most lively, especially in December with lots of Christmas lights and decorations to appreciate!

This large illuminated “LOVE” sign was taken at the Quinta Alegría Shopping Mall.
If you travel to party, Playa del Carmen’s 5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida) is famous for its vibrant nightlife with clubs, especially if you want to dance the night away as part of your Mexico vacation!
My honest experience (First time to party while solo traveling ~ so unplanned and unexpected)
Even though I don’t drink or party, I unexpectedly met three local Mexican sisters around my age who were traveling to Playa del Carmen as tourists. We had just met that evening at dinner through a small-group tour when they invited me to join them at the clubs.
I was wearing flip-flops with NO makeup.
So, I wasn’t even prepared, but… I still said yes because they were kind and respectful when I told them I don’t drink, though. One of the sisters didn’t drink either, so I never felt left out.
I’m so thankful I met them! We had so much fun dancing while singing our hearts out.
I was happy to meet new friends I truly vibed with during my solo trip to Mexico.
What I learned:
Some of the fun travel memories are the ones we never planned for ~ unexpected moments that turned into one of the most unforgettable experiences we didn’t expect we’d have. I feel it’s one of the best rewards we can have when traveling solo.

It is my first time seeing hundreds of pink flamingos in person in their large natural habitat by the water! Amazing!
I enjoyed my time in Celestún for its relaxing atmosphere and wildlife adventure! I thought the guided boat tour was a peaceful way to see the mangroves and animals, and appreciate nature.

The most unique experience I had in Celestún was a Mayan bath in the middle of the sea where the water was shallow, but cool.
Applying exfoliating clay mud on my skin felt like I was back in the Dead Sea in Israel with a similar experience, except I wasn’t floating that easily! It’s such a fun and relaxing way to appreciate the sea! I love it!
